SELF-CARE IS THE NEW SELF-LOVE

Ever dreamt of being with someone who possesses everything you need to be joyful, at peace, and successful? Now imagine they’re ready and eager to give you all you need to achieve this life.

Would you love them? Would you be appreciative of them? For most people, the answer would be a resounding yes.

Well that someone also happens to be you! You possess everything you need to make your life a joyful and successful one.

Yet, isn’t it intriguing how we chase and shower our love on things, places, and oftentimes other people, expecting them to fill up our void, all the while neglecting to extend love to ourselves?

If you don’t believe you spend little to no time loving yourself, maybe pry into some of your self-talk or inner dialogue, chances are you’ll discover a subtle “hate/dislike” relationship with yourself.

We all know what love feels like, right? It feels kind and gentle. For instance, if a friend said to you “I messed up at that meeting and i feel like a failure, or ” I did something terrible and will live with the regret for the rest of my life.” You wouldn’t respond, “Oh yea, you really embarrassed yourself, this is one for the books! You should feel ashamed!”

I doubt most of us would respond in that manner to friends and family members we love. So why do we then treat ourselves differently? Why is it ok to speak harshly to ourselves but become more deliberate in speaking to loved ones who find themselves in similar situations?

HOW TO CARE BETTER FOR YOURSELF.

Self-care isn’t solely about spa treatments, it’s about being better at loving yourself. And how do you love yourself? You love yourself by appreciating who you are. It could be by offering kindness to yourself when you stumble, speaking words of encouragement to yourself to do better, just as you would for a dear friend or looking yourself in the mirror and saying “thank you, i trust you to get me through and i love you”.

Loving yourself is about learning to forgive yourself and granting yourself the grace and space to do better. It’s about being that friend you always wished you had in your corner.

When you start growing in love with yourself, you’ll soon find that it is as beautiful and enriching as any experience of love you’ve felt.

You’ll learn to cut yourself some slack, knowing you’ll have other moments to do better. You’ll learn to laugh at awkward situations as the weight of other people’s opinions fades in comparison to your inner peace.

You’ll learn to say nice things to yourself everyday just because you can.

You’ll learn to love yourself through the process and not just when you achieve that far off goal.

You’ll learn to accept that there are different sides to you and its ok to be quirky on somedays and not so quirky on others.

You’ll learn to love all the great stuff about you as well.

There really is no better time than now to say to your soul “i LOVE you”.
